Margaret River Tour ...May 29th 2008

Hello to all,

we have just returned from another fantastic long week-end spent in the magical Margaret River...this magnificent destination never seems to disappoint. At the moment the countryside is looking its best after April rains...green, lush with masses of spectactular winter wildflowers, thanks to the current mild weather.
We took several great pic's which are featured in this months blog. Our guests returned to their Perth digs as converted "happy campers", ready & rearing to go on the next adventure! Thanks guys, we enjoyed your company.

After a rather wild first night with wind & rain, (thanks to a storm passing over the coast & heading inland), I am happy to say that our trusty equipment performed magnificently well & our fellow campers spirits were definately not dampened.
On the contrary, we awoke the next morning to sunny skies, laughing jackasses (kookaburra's) & a heartwarming breakfast thanks to Michelle, Nicole & Jane.

The weather improved nicely over the next few days & it was actually warm enough(?) for a few mad souls to brave the chilly waters of Redgate beach for a spot of bodysurfing...the swell was impressive. The more sane amongst us simply lazed on the beach enjoying the sun.

Our campsite was fantastic & we were delighted to see the local wildlife pay us a few surprise visits...kangaroo's grazing at sunset, a chulditch keeping us company by the campfire of an evening & various magpies & kookaburra's to drop in during the day...never a dull moment!

We were joined on this tour by a few wine afficionado's who were delighted with the "local drop" & consequently returned to Perth with backpacks heavily laden with their favorite Margaret River reds. As usual, a few choice vintages were consumed by all around the campfire, where we shared stories late into the night.
A unanimous vote went to Michelle's succulent Fettucine ragu, as the most memorable meal of the week-end, the runner-up being BBQ'd Honey Glazed Chicken (which was great with a local semillion/sauv blanc).

The week-end was topped off by a delicious lunch at Hamelin Bay Wines where we were happy to chillout gazing over their stupendous vineyard & property. Thanks to Hamelin Bay again for making us feel so welcome.
Last but not least, thanks to all those who participated, we know you loved it(!)
& so did we...making lasting friendships is really the best part of this business.
Goodluck on your travels & hopefully we will see you again sometime soon; meanwhile we are making preparations for our next Kalbarri Explorer adventure.

Ciao for now

Michelle & Lewis
